چکیده

The measurement of wind erosion is not only important to understand wind erosion itself, but also an important scientific step in efforts to reverse the process of desertification. This study develops a model that predicts sand transport flux at pixel level based on the quantitative relationship between remotely sensed vegetation coverage and observed sand transport rate data. The data were collected from field surveys in the sandy area of Yuyang County, which is located in the Mu Us Desert. The study found that the sand transport flux was 9,643 kilograms per meter annually (kga m) for a mobile dune, 6,394 kga m for a semi-mobile dune, 2,634.5 kga m for bare cultivated land, and 127.7 kga m for a semi-fixed dune. Using the sand flux derived by our model, the wind erosion modulus in the Yuyang sandy area was found to be 1,673.18 tons per square kilometer annually [ta (km)] in 1986, 1,568.10 in 1996, and 1,685.04 in 2005. Mean vegetation coverage in the sandy area of Yuyang in 1986, 1996, and 2005 was 42.39, 48.07, and 48.03 %, respectively, indicating that overall, vegetation coverage Y. Yue J. Wind erosion is a significant problem on 20 million ha of Iran, especially in central plains and coastal areas. Winderosion samplers, meteorological equipments and measurement procedure have been developed over the last twocenturies to measure the particles moving across the field in modes of creep, saltation and suspension. In recentresearch as the first technical measurement in Iran, wind ero...

The result of wind dynamic (capacity and potential) is transport of soil or sediment particles and subsequent formative desert landforms based on the severity of erosion or sedimentation. The Khartouran region, because of its geology, geomorphology and climatology conditions is a special place in the arid region on the closed basin of Dasht-e-kavir. It is evident that the ecosystem balance of t...

Remote Sensing of Tidal Situation by Monitoring Changes in Suspended Sediment Concentration in Surface Waters

Collecting information on suspended sediments concentration (SSC) in coastal waters and estuaries is vital for proper management of coastal environments. Traditionally, SSC used to be measured by time consuming and costly point measurements. This method allows the accurate measurement of SSC only for a point in space and time. Remote sensing from air-borne and space-borne sensors have proved to...
